By Dr. Matthew Wilkinson
12th June 2013. Dr. Matthew Wilkinson deliver a session entitled, ‘Helping educational success: the case for inclusive history in schools”, at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge to history teacher-trainees. The session explained the different types of success – intellectual, spiritual, emotional, instrumental and civic – that can be effected by a history education with reference to an empirical sample of secondary pupils in England. The teacher-trainees themselves then thought through what some authentic criteria for an inclusive history should be and designed a programme of study according to those principles. It was an animated and highly enjoyable session for Matthew and, judging by their high levels of engagement and expression of thanks at the end, for the teacher-trainees.
