Curriculum for Cohesion contributes to University of Cambridge Religious Studies PGCE

By Dr. Matthew Wilkinson

Monday, 13th January. Dr. Matthew Wilkinson presented a lively session entitled Islam, Religious Studies and Critical Realism on the University of Cambridge Religious Studies PGCE teacher-training course. The presentation showed how the intellectual fulcrum of the philosophy of critical realism can ‘underlabour’ for a deeper, more rigorous treatment of Islam and other faiths by RE pupils that will help them distinguish between true and healthy and false and damaging forms of faith. The theory of the session and the practical exercises that accompanied it were well received by the teacher trainees who said that they will find the intellectual ‘tools’ explained by Dr. Wilkinson useful for their own practice.
